Artist's Comments

Going back to basics, i'm not happy with any of the work i'm doing at the moment so i decided to screw trying to paint like other artists. I went back to the chalky brush i used to use all the time and to be completely honest i'm not sure why i stopped using it.

Although these sketches are.... dodgy to say the least they're the most i've enjoyed painting for a good long time. Think i'm going to stick at it and see where it takes me :)

PS. Cheers Annis for making me see the error of my ways ;)

Your stuff is good regardless man, but ~annisahmad made some really good points. Don't give up on the inspiration from other artists, just don't try and copy the exact style. I'm working on my own right now too, and I infact just ordered Vyle's DVD, but only as an aid... Interesting stuff, but all great artists have their own thing going for them and it helps to get a push in the right direction, be we ultimately have to have our own visions.

I do a lot of fanart, because I'm scared to try my own things, but I'm working on it... I just need one of those pushes. You're a big inspiration to a lot of people here on dA, and no matter what style you chose, we'll love your work, just don't let someone else's stuff own yours.

P.S. I really like these sketches :D

Thanks man, yeah suppose your right.

You should just go for things, try your own thing. I'm always scared to show people my sketchbook because the stuff in it isn't very good, I let people dictate how i draw and what i think is good which is really bad for growing as an artist. Although it still bugs me when i draw somthing thats a bit crap i'll at least keep it now.

PS. you want to join the sketchgroup i'm trying to set up? lol i would say you works up to scratch ;) (love that transformers pic your working on)

:D yeah, I know what you mean... I toss a lot of my work out, and I rarely let people peek into my sketchbook. I'm also heavily influence by a lot of the stuff people tell me and what I see, so I have to be careful not to conform to other styles or idea, but I guess that's the same for any artist.

And yeah, I'd love to join a sketchgroup if you get one rolling... Just let me know :D

the second one has a very interesting perspective to it.

yeah. for my latest piece. it got frustrating halfway coz i was trying to be super tight and realistic.. when the style that really suits me is loose and sketchy. i didnt know why i even tried doing a style that doesnt suit me. lol.
